A Poem for Rumi

How did you learn so much about love?
You praise the emptiness as much as the fullness and overflow.
You take me with you to the mountains, the stars you speak of.

Did you wander lonely in the desert for your Beloved?
What form did he take when he arrived?
Did you dance for him?
What honey tongue did he speak in?
Did you weep with relief and kiss the earth
or did you fall on your knees and laugh mad with joy?

You become orb, grow ever-wider as you spin like the celestials.
Perhaps you are with them. Perhaps you are here again.
Would you know how much your words have outlived you?

You span and span, alchemised
joined everything as one
became geometry
crossed thresholds of being.

You alone understood that the broken heart has finally opened
and the wound is only the knowledge it asked for.

    1. I should have said, Tricia, that it was inspired by one his lines which went something like: I’ll keep breaking my heart until it opens. I meant to mention that before. It inspired the whole poem.πŸ’› Anyway, thank you for reading!

  1. This is amazing writing and it’s a beyond beautiful tribute to Rumi. I have so many poems from dVerse to read right now and including these different poets, especially ones I have admittedly not read much of, I’ll definitely be up all night here lol. As said, brilliant and amazing writing. It’s powerful and moving to me.

    1. I’ve only just seen your comment, Lucy, sorry for the late reply (it fell into my spam for some reason). Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot as I really admire your work ❀ I'm the same, I love being introduced to new poets and I also have a long reading list now. Hope you're well! πŸ™‚

      1. Definitely. I always have a look and sometimes don’t feel up to the dVerse challenges but after doing NaPoWriMo this year I feel more seasoned! πŸ’› I look forward to the next one β˜€οΈ

  2. Was just reading some Rumi a few days ago. So I enjoy this poem even more. Always loving your style and your themes. So much goodness here. Liked this:

    “You span and span, alchemised
    joined everything as one
    became geometry
    crossed thresholds of being.”

And you really finished this off in a fantastic way!
