When the Tide Turns

And I
said unto him
she shall sing, she of the
melting horizons shall sing the
blues.  He

turned to
me and said, but
the moment brings peril
there are demons in the wings, they
lurk, skulk

seek to
silence she of
the melting horizons.
Yet it is writ in star dust, I
said.  We

can do
nothing but bear
witness to her song.  None
can thwart the course of fate.  Yes, a
storm is

coming
we must beware
but first she must take her
stage and break everyone’s heart to
pieces.

Written for dVerse Poetry Prompt Night, hosted by Laura, who sets us the challenge to write…

…either a cinq-cinquain:

  • a series of 5 [entire] Crapsey Cinquains, 25 lines total
  • syllabic count: 2-4-6-8-2 in each stanza
  • written with or without breaks between stanzas

 OR the cinquain chain/crown cinquain:

  • a series of 5 [entire] Crapsey Cinquains, 25 lines total
  • syllabic count: 2-4-6-8-2 in each stanza
  • written with a break between each stanza
  • last line of the previous cinquain repeated as first line of the next cinquain
  • Note: The final line of the last cinquain does not have to equal the first line of the first cinquain, but it is an option.

  1. A myriad of thoughts…wonderful tone…a knowledge that even if I attempted such word mastery it would ring hollow….and my favourite thought, that your poetry is so entertaining, so fine to read…I think it is written with readers in mind, hopefully of a certain stature!😄

    1. Ain, you’re so kind, thank you 😊 I’m not sure all my poems deserve such praise but I appreciate it. This one is a bit affected! I just wanted to play with the form and I was already referencing that scene in the film for something else so it was convenient. Thank you 💛

  2. how very creative and unique – with the two voices and the element of magic. This was a pleasure to read, with so many lovely lines – not least:
” first she must take her
stage and break everyone’s heart “

    1. You know, Manja, I deleted this page so I have no idea how you found it! I hardly ever go on FB these days, haven’t for a while. So that’s interesting to know! Did it come up easily when you did a search? I honestly thought I had deleted it and all work I had previously posted. Glad you liked what you found though 🙂

      1. The funny thing is that I didn’t set out to find you. I think Facebook suggested your page to me. They know everything!! But for sure you didn’t delete it… It’s right there accessible to all. To find it made me happy. 🙂

      2. Thank you, Manja! That’s kind of you. I genuinely thought I had deleted it ages ago. I remember doing it quite clearly. It obviously didn’t work! Still, I’ve done it now (at least I hope so). 🙂 If you can still see it, do please let me know!

      3. Oh good! Thanks for checking. I am still on there with a normal profile but I never go on there any more, except to reply to birthday messages occasionally. I really ought to come off entirely but I haven’t managed that yet. I’m still in two minds.
