Shadows & Reflections, Line & Form

Finally
we are explorers.
Describe how
it was when
you climbed to the very top
then drank it all in.

Oxygen
fills you out again
expanding
your band width.
Here we make garlands of time.
Yes.  It’s a good wind.

*

Chalk it up
to experience
how you caved
to moments
of chasing dreams when dreams were
taken.  And yet, oh –

*

Vanilla
vapour seduction
not easy
nor sinless.
It’s just physiology
stealing my senses.

*

The hauntings
the shoulda, woulda
coulda, the
ifs and buts
the is-it-too-late.  And yet
a ghost of longing.

*

Point.  Focus.
Zoom in.  Keep still.  Click.
Frozen frames.
Light bouncing.
Moments captured forever
as memory fades.

Written for Shay’s Word Garden where Shay brings us inspiration with Paige Ackerson-Kiely (words used: explorers, describe, oxygen, garlands, chalk, vanilla, vapour), and We’Ave Written Weekly, hosted by David, where the poet of the week, Sylvia Cognac, invites us to write a Shadorma poem (3/5/3/3/7/5) up to seven stanzas long, (it was on the topic of food but I’ve only just read the instructions properly so that bit didn’t happen, oops).

    1. Ah, there’s that Knack song again, “My Shadorma.” My myyy myyyyyyy shadorma!

I think maybe a lot of art is about the preservation of something fleeting–an image, a feeling, a photo, a painting, a poem .

  1. Nice shadorma! Technically you did meet the food requirement, since you mentioned vanilla! If I wouldn’t have known, I would have also thought the “drank it all in” line was meant to have a double meaning. Either way, it’s a lovely poem. Nice work.

    1. Thank you, Sylvia! Then the poem is redeemed! 😀 Really appreciate your kind comments.

I genuinely missed the second part of the prompt. I glanced at it and saw “shadorma” and thought ooh I’ve never done one of those before and set to work. It was only when I went to link it I saw the food addition and thought damn! Oh well 😀
