I Wish I Was a Morning Person

When all seemed well, I stepped out.  The sunrise a bleach streak of exalted non-yellow.  ‘Twas not a normal Sunday.  I, gauche femme, frostbitten, fingerless mitten.  When the mind is loquacious.  Then pauses to drench.  Quiet jives.  Time is a slipstream.  Rendered lucid in the giddy light.  Karma’s overgrown hair blowing into spring.  A familial scattering.  And here I land – pop! – in a gasp of winter sun.  Homeland.  In motion.  But. Waiting for a bus.  Clashing colours.  Empty stomach.  Sleep-deprived.  And always, always just a little bit late.

  1. First, I love that is is quite definitely a poem, even though the form appears to be prose. Clever sneak that you are lol.

“Karma’s overgrown hair blowing into spring” That’s just so excellent.

Back when I used to need to be places, I was always a little bit late! I was the horse that didn’t want to draw the carriage, I just wanted to munch hay in my comfy stall. Now, that’s all I do. Try and stop me! Ha! 🙂

    1. Ha ha! Thank you for the great feedback, Shay, I appreciate it ❤ That line popped out of the depths of my subconscious.

I had to go to a Women's Health & Wellness event out of town for which I'd bought a ticket like two months ago. So I had to get up at 7am, which was torture on a day I would normally spend languishing or reading. It turned out to be pretty good though. Mostly, I got talked at by lots of intelligent female experts about psychology, body positivity, latest menopause research, etc, ending with a yoga session. I also spent a lot of time by the snacks table 😀

      1. I’m sorry to hear that, Filipa. If only you were here, I would have taken you. Or if I ever visit you, we’ll go to one! I’m sure they have these events in Portugal too. You would have enjoyed it! I hope you are feeling a bit better now, or at least are on your way there, my chick ❤ ❤

      2. One day, we’ll go together amiga. They have these events in Portugal and in France too. I’ve returned this Tuesday from Lisbon. My mother died on the 11th. It was so hard to say goodbye to her Nina. She was only 68 and an amazing human being. But when cancer strikes three times… Besitos amiga.

” Clashing colours. Empty stomach. Sleep-deprived. And always, always just a little bit late. ” i really like that ending. feels like a poem of the moment, a quick flash in time, and i like the short quick sentences, keeps that “fleeting” sensation going. enjoyed this flash poem sunra
