Because the Poem

Because life’s too short not to share your poems.

For your poem may yield the answer someone is looking for.

And poems need to be heard even though they’re shy and like to come in disguise.

And the poet is the guardian of the poem but the poem takes on a life of its own once sent forth.

For the poem will naturally spring from the heart to make sense of the deeper blues and all things fallen, where ordinary words won’t do, to honour the thing that wants to spill itself.

And the poem longs to be understood and never is, yet sometimes too is fathomed in ways it didn’t intend but extends beyond its humble beginning.

For the poem doesn’t always like to dress up in fancy frock language, it just wants to move you or surprise you, just make you feel something, to show you its window view, so you may see beyond your house of cards box room.

And the poem can melt an icicle to tears because it knew love then lost it but got back up and carried on.

Because the poem has a sense of humour, is insane with wisdom and has a twist at the end.

And for Goddess’ sake, the poem must be shared and not kept in a journal in a box of journals in an attic room in a house where no one goes in the attic room.

For the poem loves to undress for you, slowly and exquisitely, and let you savour it piece by piece.

Because you too are a wild poem walking the earth, even though your words may be bullshit or holy, a promise writ in sand, or you haven’t yet found your words.
