Erasure Poem #62, acrylic & gel pen on paper, sketchbooks 2023, © N Nazir
the naming of my [death]
the parenthesis of my [sex]
the blab of art,
of hurrahs and jokes,
roused and sunstruck,
the sudden vibrating howls
of adulterous lips
*
*Don’t ask me what this poem’s about, I couldn’t tell you. It’s an exercise in automatic poem-making. No doubt any poem/art reveals something about its creator, so possibly this one means I’m a little disturbed or disturbing.
*Text source was from A Primer for Poets & Readers of Poetry by Gregory Orr, but I’ve no idea what page as I painted over it.
Very creative 😀

Lots of times I don’t know what my poems mean, either. But I really like your poem. I enjoyed the flow and the word choices and the painted page.

The mystery of foraging! You never know what you’ll find. Just don’t eat it! 🥴

Ha ha ha! Exactly! Well, unless you’re with a mushroom expert. Just kidding! 😂

I found the second line incredibly profound—You have a knack with words/illustrations. Meaningful just for its artistry.

I wouldn’t call you disturbed based on this. Just like a lot of us and thankfully not ‘normal’ (whatever that means!). I enjoyed this piece. It’s so ambiguous.

Thanks, OP! I’m glad you don’t think I’m disturbed 😄 Pleased you like it. Ambiguity is a good thing with poetry, I think, so I’ll take that!
