I manifest myself a dress
as an act of self-care.
My pockets bulge with shrugs.
This frock must have pockets.
Hidden fathoms within the oasis
of my body. I stitch
seams until they’re unseen, until
poems tumble from the hem.

Love the metaphor, also after a lot of discussions with my wife… where are the pockets on women’s clothes?

Thanks Bjorn. You know, I’m not sure but I think it’s a residue of old-fashioned thought that women didn’t need pockets because they would usually reside in the house. And possibly from a fashion sense, designers may think that pockets mar the female silhouette. Which is nonsense. Women always need pockets! 🙂

“My pockets bulge with shrugs” — Of the philosophical variety, accumulated daily, and who can’t identify?! — Wonderful use of extended metaphor, Sunra.

I love this! So much more than the zen of dressmaking. An analogy for life itself. Especially a creative one!
